The definition of “diversity” is expanding upon traits like race/ethnicity and gender and recognizing the importance of the intersection of identities on the employee experience.
While women of color continue to make up a larger and larger portion of the workforce, they still face significant challenges navigating the workplace.
Some of their most prevalent barriers include: lack of leadership development training, lack of mentoring or sponsorship opportunities with key allies, lack of access to/visibility within key and influential networks, stereotyping, daily microaggressions, shortage of role models, lack of robust employer DEI initiatives and reluctance to ask for promotions.
Being intentional about developing and maintaining robust diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts continues to reap rewards for organizations.
